Indian Type Foundry Brand Guidelines
Global scripts.

Two constants: a vibrant, global palette and a versatile sans register. Abstract homage — not the ITF wordmark or its typefaces.
Global scripts
ITF designs type for the world’s writing systems.
Indian Type Foundry is a lesson in prolific, multi-script range. Founded in 2009 by Satya Rajpurohit (with early involvement from Typotheque’s Peter Biľak) in Ahmedabad, ITF is one of the world’s largest independent foundries — 300-plus families across some 20 writing systems — behind the flagship multi-script superfamily Kohinoor and the ubiquitous Google font Poppins.
Its brand identity is prolific, contemporary and global: a professional, type-specimen-driven presentation built around scale and script breadth. It is a leader in modern Indic type — Devanagari, Bangla, Tamil, Gujarati, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and more — with Kohinoor exhibited at London’s Design Museum since 2016.
(Honest notes: ITF is independent — not owned by Monotype — and its sister ventures Fontshare, Fontstore and Bézier share a founder but don’t own it. Some faces sometimes attributed to it aren’t theirs: Aktiv Grotesk is Dalton Maag’s and Fresco is OurType’s. And there’s no official brand hex, so the colours here are an unofficial interpretation.)
Colour
Indian Type Foundry lives in a vibrant, global palette. Click a swatch to copy the hex.
Indian Type Foundry’s identity is vibrant, prolific and global — a marigold, a magenta, a teal green, a panel, and an ink. Rather than one fixed brand colour, ITF suits a bright, energetic, varied palette that matches its enormous range across scripts and styles. It signals breadth, energy and contemporary global reach. The honest caveat: with no published brand hex, these tones are an original, unofficial interpretation, not first-party values.
The lesson is a vibrant palette signals prolific, global range. ITF’s world is a huge, multi-script library. For designers, it is a reminder that an energetic, varied palette can express range and reach — right for a foundry serving many languages and many markets at scale. The takeaways: use bright, varied colour to signal range; keep it contemporary; and treat any single hex as unofficial — using a deep magenta for small text so the brights stay vibrant.
Typography
The register is a versatile sans — contemporary and global.
Indian Type Foundry’s identity carries a prolific, contemporary, global spirit — enormous range across scripts. A clean, versatile sans captures the mood: it is professional and adaptable, the register of a foundry designing for the whole world. Set against a vibrant palette, the versatile sans feels contemporary and global — exactly the prolific personality ITF carries. It is adaptable rather than niche, mirroring a huge multi-script library. (ITF’s real wordmark and its retail typefaces — Kohinoor, Poppins and the rest — are commercial products and trademarks we name but do not reproduce or set text in; the exact brand typeface is not ours to use — and we deliberately do not set specimens in Poppins, an ITF face.) Because those faces are not ours to set, the honest description is “a versatile sans spirit,” shown here in a stand-in. The type behaves like the brand: prolific, contemporary and global.

Range as identity
ITF stands for prolific, multi-script type.
Indian Type Foundry is a lesson in making global range the identity. A vibrant palette, a professional presentation and an enormous multi-script library make prolific, worldwide range the brand — broad, contemporary, ambitious. The script breadth is the differentiator. The differentiator is a prolific, multi-script, global identity.
For designers and brand-builders, ITF offers a clear takeaway: range and reach can be a positioning. The lessons: build for many scripts and markets; use an energetic palette to express breadth; and let flagship families (Kohinoor, Poppins) show the scale. It is also a reminder to stay accurate: ITF is independent (not Monotype), Aktiv Grotesk and Fresco aren’t theirs, and the palette here is an unofficial interpretation. ITF made global range the brand — proof that breadth can be the difference.
