Twenty-eight brand guides to beds and mattresses — handmade luxury beds, the big mattress groups and online bed-in-a-box brands.

The mattress trade is concentrated in a few groups whose brands often look independent. These guides set out who owns each one.

The groups

Somnigroup owns Tempur-Pedic, Sealy and Stearns & Foster; Serta Simmons Bedding owns Serta, Beautyrest and Tuft & Needle; Resident Home owns Nectar, DreamCloud and Awara; Spain’s Flex group owns Vispring and Aireloom; and the Haniel group holds a majority of Emma.

Handmade beds

Hästens, family-owned, has made beds in Köping since 1852; Savoir Beds began at The Savoy in 1905; Duxiana has made the DUX bed in Sweden since 1926; and Shifman has hand-tufted mattresses in Newark since 1893.

How to use these guides

Each guide covers who owns the name today, where the products are made — by the maker’s own account and, where it differs, by other sources — and the brand’s visual identity. A company’s description of itself is attributed to the company, and where a business has closed we say so plainly. The table at the end gathers the essentials.
