Res Rei Brand Guidelines
The laminated frame.

Two constants: a laminated-jewel palette and a sculptural serif register. Abstract homage — not the Res Rei frames or acetate patterns.
The laminated frame
Res Rei layers acetate into sculpture.
Res Rei is a lesson in laminated acetate as the identity. Founded in 2011 in Treviso by Oliviero Zanon, RES/REI makes handmade eyewear whose whole character comes from exclusive, layered acetate patterns and colour.
Its identity is the laminated frame. Res Rei makes handmade sunglasses and optical frames built on in-house laminated Italian acetate — bold, colourful, sculptural, with combinations you won’t see elsewhere, inspired by art, architecture and cinema. Colour, layered into the material. A frame carved from patterned acetate.
(Honest notes: Res Rei (styled RES/REI) was founded in 2011 in Treviso, in the Veneto, by Oliviero Zanon (some retailers say 2012; we use 2011, per the founder and trade press). Its signature is bold, sculptural eyewear built on exclusive laminated Mazzucchelli acetate patterns and colour — a craft of layering and shaping acetate. Importantly, it is not a 3D-printed brand: “three-dimensional” refers to sculptural acetate work, not additive manufacturing, so we don’t frame it as 3D-printed. It is genuinely made in Italy (“handmade in Italy”), designed and hand-assembled in the Veneto. It is independent (Res Rei Srl), with Mazzucchelli 1849 as an acetate supplier, not an owner. The name is Latin for “the thing.” There’s no official brand hex, and we reproduce no frame or acetate pattern — these tones are an unofficial interpretation. This is design commentary and does not promote any product.)
Colour
Res Rei lives in a laminated-jewel palette. Click a swatch to copy the hex.
Res Rei’s identity is bold, sculptural and Italian — an amber, an ink, an emerald, a wine, and a cream. The palette leans laminated jewel — the register of layered, patterned acetate. It signals colour and craft rather than novelty. The honest caveat: with no published brand hex, these tones are an original, unofficial interpretation, not first-party values.
The lesson is a laminated-jewel palette signals an acetate-craft brand. Res Rei’s world is a richly layered, sculptural object. For designers, it is a reminder that a material technique — laminating and shaping acetate into exclusive patterns — can be the whole identity, and that owning your colour combinations sets you apart in a category full of stock acetate. Because an amber can fail as small text, keep type dark and let the colour live in the accents, palette and band. The takeaways: own the acetate; layer the colour; sculpt the form; and treat any single hex as unofficial.
Typography
The register is a sculptural serif — bold, Italian, high-contrast.
Res Rei’s identity carries a bold, Italian, high-contrast spirit — a layered, sculptural object. A dramatic fashion serif captures the mood: it is confident and Italian, the register of a craft eyewear house. Set in a laminated-jewel palette, the sculptural serif feels bold and high-contrast — exactly the personality Res Rei carries. It is expressive rather than plain, mirroring layered acetate. (Res Rei’s real frames and acetate patterns are works we describe but do not reproduce, and the exact typeface is not ours to use.) Because it is not ours to use, the honest description is “a sculptural serif spirit,” shown here in a stand-in. The type behaves like the brand: bold, Italian and high-contrast.

Laminated acetate as identity
Res Rei stands for the laminated frame.
Res Rei is a lesson in making a material technique the identity. A laminated-jewel palette, a sculptural serif and a layered frame make laminated acetate the whole brand — bold, sculptural, Italian. The technique is the differentiator. The differentiator is exclusive, in-house laminated acetate patterns no competitor can copy.
Put to work, the identity is a craft you own. A designer building in this spirit would develop proprietary material — here layered, colour-laminated acetate — and let its patterns and depth be the product, so the brand stands apart from everyone buying the same stock sheets. The lesson Res Rei teaches is that owning a technique is a durable moat: because it laminates and sculpts its own acetate, its colour combinations are literally unavailable elsewhere, and a genuine made-in-Italy craft story gives that material real value. Being clear that it is handmade acetate — not 3D-printed — keeps the craft claim accurate.
For designers and brand-builders, Res Rei offers a clear takeaway: own a material technique. The lessons: own the acetate; layer the colour; sculpt the form; and be honest about the story. It is also a reminder to stay accurate: it was founded in 2011 in Treviso by Oliviero Zanon, its signature is laminated Italian acetate, and it is genuinely handmade in Italy — the palette here is an unofficial interpretation. And it is a reminder that in a category where almost everyone buys the same stock material, developing your own is the surest way to be un-copyable: because the colour and pattern live inside the acetate itself, a rival cannot simply order the same sheet, so the differentiation is baked into the raw material rather than bolted on at the surface. Res Rei made the laminated frame the brand — proof that a technique can be the difference.
