Vacu Vin Brand Guidelines

Two constants: a blue-and-wine palette and an engineered sans register. Abstract homage — not the Vacu Vin products or packaging.
The wine saver
Vacu Vin built a brand on one invention.
Vacu Vin is a lesson in one invention as identity. The story begins at a 1984 birthday party, where two Dutch brothers — a wine trader and an engineer — were annoyed that an opened bottle had gone flat overnight. In 1986 they answered it with the first Wine Saver.
Its identity is the vacuum Wine Saver. A small hand pump and a reusable stopper draw the air out of an opened bottle to slow oxidation and keep the wine fresh — an idea so central that the whole company grew from it, with more than 44 million sold, over twenty patents and a Red Dot for the Wine Saver Loop. Around it sit coolers, aerators, corkscrews and barware, but the pump is the point. One clever object, endlessly refined.
(Honest notes: the brand tells the origin as “two brothers,” and the company dates its founding to 1986 in Delft. A named founder and an “International Innovation Company” parent appear only in third-party accounts, not on the official site, so we don’t assert them. The old “Rapid Ice” cooler is now branded “Active Cooler.” It’s designed in the Netherlands and made by European partners — so not “made in Holland.” There’s no official brand hex, so these tones are an unofficial interpretation. This is design commentary and does not promote any product.)
Colour
Vacu Vin lives in a blue-and-wine palette. Click a swatch to copy the hex.
Vacu Vin’s identity is inventive, functional and Dutch — a vacuum blue, an ink, a wine, a steel, and a chalk. The palette pairs a blue with a wine — the register of an engineered wine tool. It signals invention and function rather than novelty. The honest caveat: with no published brand hex, these tones are an original, unofficial interpretation, not first-party values.
The lesson is a blue with a wine signals a wine-preservation brand. Vacu Vin’s world is a clever pump on a kitchen counter. For designers, it is a reminder that a single well-solved problem can be a whole identity, refined for decades. Because a mid blue can fail as small text, keep type dark and let the colour live in the accents, palette and band. The takeaways: solve one problem well; patent and refine it; keep the object simple; and treat any single hex as unofficial.
Typography
The register is an engineered sans — inventive, functional, Dutch.
Vacu Vin’s identity carries an inventive, functional, Dutch spirit — a clever, everyday tool. A clean engineered sans captures the mood: it is precise and legible, the register of design engineering. Set in a blue-and-wine palette, the engineered sans feels inventive and functional — exactly the personality Vacu Vin carries. It is practical rather than decorative, mirroring a preservation pump. (Vacu Vin’s real products and wordmark are works we describe but do not reproduce, and the exact typeface is not ours to use.) Because it is not ours to use, the honest description is “an engineered sans spirit,” shown here in a stand-in. The type behaves like the brand: inventive, functional and Dutch.

One invention as identity
Vacu Vin stands for the vacuum Wine Saver.
Vacu Vin is a lesson in making one invention the identity. A blue-and-wine palette, an engineered sans and a clever pump make the Wine Saver the whole brand — inventive, functional, Dutch. The invention is the differentiator. The differentiator is a vacuum that keeps wine fresh.
For designers and brand-builders, Vacu Vin offers a clear takeaway: solve one problem, then refine it for decades. The lessons: solve one problem well; patent and improve it; keep the object simple; and be honest about the story. It is also a reminder to stay accurate: it’s a 1986 Delft invention told as “two brothers,” designed in the Netherlands and made in Europe, and the palette here is an unofficial interpretation. Vacu Vin made one invention the brand — proof that a single solved problem can be the difference.
