The woven carbon

Festka builds custom carbon frames from its own tubing in Prague, often with artist finishes.

Festka is a lesson in custom carbon as the identity. A Czech studio in Prague, it builds bicycle frames from its own carbon-fibre tubing — woven and tuned per rider, then hand-built tube-to-tube into a carbon monocoque — and finishes many of them in vivid artist collaborations. Carbon, made bespoke.

Its identity is the woven carbon. Festka’s made-to-measure carbon frames and their bold, artful finishes are the work it is known for. A tube, made a signature. A studio that weaves its own carbon.

(Honest notes, so the story stays precise. Festka was founded in 2010 in Prague by two former racers, Michael Moureček and Ondřej Novotný, and both still lead it; it is independent. Its carbon frames are designed, engineered and built in Prague from its own Czech-made carbon tubing, tuned per rider — but one honest point on origin: the painting is done by a separate partner paint shop, not in the main workshop, so we say “built in Prague, painted by a partner shop.” It is carbon-led today, with steel and titanium now offered as limited editions rather than the core range. Its famous artist finishes are genuine collaborations, and we credit named artists — such as Ondrash & Kašpárek and Jakub Kois — for their artwork, rather than treating it as Festka’s alone. Its frames, finishes, collaborators’ artwork and name are their owners’ IP, described but never reproduced, and there is no official brand hex — these tones are an unofficial interpretation. This is design commentary and does not promote any product.)

Colour

Festka lives in an ultramarine-and-vermilion palette. Click a swatch to copy the hex.

Festka’s identity is bold, artful and precise — an ultramarine, an ink, a vermilion, a gold, and a chalk. The palette leans ultramarine and vermilion: the register of vivid, art-led finishes on precise carbon. It signals art and engineering together. The honest caveat: with no published brand hex, these values are an original, unofficial interpretation evoking its artful spirit, not first-party colours or any specific artwork.

The lesson is an ultramarine-and-vermilion palette signals an art-led identity. Festka’s world is a bold, artful, precisely-made object. For designers, it is a reminder that a vivid, confident palette can carry a brand built on both engineering and art — colour used as boldly as the carbon is precise. Because these tones can fail as small text, keep type dark and let the colour live in the accents, palette and band. The takeaways: make your own tubing; pair engineering with art; credit collaborators; and treat any single hex as unofficial.

Typography

The register is an expressive sans — bold, contemporary, artful.

Festka’s identity carries a bold, contemporary, artful spirit — an expressive object, not a plain one. An expressive sans captures the mood: confident, modern and characterful, the register of art-led finishes on precise carbon. Set in an ultramarine-and-vermilion palette, the expressive sans feels bold and contemporary — exactly the personality Festka carries. It is artful rather than austere, mirroring a vividly finished frame. (Festka’s real frames, artist finishes and wordmark are things we describe but do not reproduce, and the exact typeface is not ours to use.) Because it is not ours to use, the honest description is “an expressive-sans spirit,” shown here in a stand-in. The type behaves like the studio: bold, contemporary and artful.

Custom carbon as identity

Festka stands for the woven carbon.

Festka is a lesson in making custom carbon the identity. An ultramarine-and-vermilion palette, an expressive sans and made-to-measure carbon frames make craft-plus-art the whole studio — bold, artful and precise. The carbon is the differentiator. The differentiator is a genuine capability — weaving its own carbon tubing and tuning it per rider — paired with an art-led approach to finish that makes each frame a canvas.

Put to work, the identity is engineering plus art. A studio building in this spirit would make its own critical material, invite real artists to finish the work, and be candid about what it builds and what it outsources, so the customer buys into both precision and personality. The lesson Festka teaches is that a genuine engineering capability plus a real art sensibility can build a brand: the carbon gives it substance, and the art gives it voice. The making is the personality, and the finish is the proof.

For designers and brand-builders, Festka offers a clear takeaway: pair real engineering with real art. The lessons: make your own material; collaborate with artists and credit them; be candid about what you outsource; and be honest about the story. It is also a reminder to stay accurate: Festka is an independent Czech studio founded in 2010 by Michael Moureček and Ondřej Novotný, building custom carbon from its own tubing in Prague and painting through a separate partner shop, carbon-led with steel and titanium as limited editions — with the palette here an unofficial interpretation. Festka made the woven carbon the studio — proof that engineering and art can be the difference.

Source & notes

Editorial reference. This article reports publicly documented facts about Festka’s visual identity as design commentary; it is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, Festka, and it does not promote the purchase or use of any product. The Festka name, wordmark, frame designs and its collaborators’ artwork are trademarks/works of their owners — the graphics here are original abstract homages (colour discs and carbon-texture swatches); no frame, artwork or wordmark is reproduced, and all specimen text is set in a Google-Font stand-in. Facts reported from public sources (festka.com): Festka is an independent Czech studio in Prague (founded 2010 by Michael Moureček and Ondřej Novotný), known for custom carbon frames from its own tubing, often with artist finishes. Honest notes: frames are designed, engineered and built in Prague, but painting is done by a separate partner shop; it is carbon-led (steel and titanium are limited editions); and its artist finishes are collaborations credited to the named artists (e.g. Ondrash & Kašpárek, Jakub Kois). No official brand hex is published, so the tones here are an unofficial interpretation.
