Kefir plus vitality

KeVita started with home fermentation.

KeVita is a lesson in making fermented drinks feel light. Founded in 2009 in Ojai, California by Bill Moses (the business co-founder and CEO) and Chakra Earthsong (who formulated the first ferment in her home kitchen), its very name blends Kefir and Vitality. The idea was a sparkling, accessible probiotic drink.

KeVita’s range spans Master Brew Kombucha and Sparkling Probiotic Refreshers (fermented with a water-kefir culture, like the original Lemon Ginger), plus protein and prebiotic-lemonade lines. Its positioning is deliberately lighter and more sparkling than heavy, traditional kombucha — an easy entry point to gut-health drinks.

(Honest notes: KeVita has two co-founders — some brand copy credits only Chakra, but Bill Moses is the CEO/business co-founder; the brand is based in Ventura County, California; on ownership, KeVita was acquired by PepsiCo (announced 2016, a reported ~$200M) and operates as a PepsiCo brand, with both founders staying on as ambassadors; and no official brand hex is published.)

Colour

KeVita lives in a clean, bright palette. Click a swatch to copy the hex.

KeVita’s identity is clean, bright and wellness-forward — a lemon-ginger gold, a kefir teal, a berry, a cream, and an ink. Light, flavour-coded colours and clear benefit callouts give it a fresh, approachable feel — more sparkling refresher than earthy brew. It signals an easy, everyday gut-health drink rather than an intense wellness product. The honest caveat: with no published brand hex, these tones are an original, unofficial interpretation, not first-party values.

The lesson is clean, bright colour reads as light and accessible. KeVita’s world is fresh and uncomplicated. For designers, it is a reminder that a clean, flavour-coded palette can position a fermented drink as a refresher rather than a hardcore health product, matching a brand built on sparkling accessibility. The takeaways: keep the palette clean and bright; colour-code by flavour; and treat any single hex as unofficial — using the ink for small text so the brights stay fresh.

Typography

The wordmark spirit is a clean sans — fresh and modern.

KeVita’s identity carries a fresh, clean, wellness spirit — a “KeVita” wordmark with its signature capital “V” (the Vita in Kefir-plus-Vitality). A clean sans captures the mood: it is bright and modern, the register of a brand whose lines are “For All Gutkind” and “Cheers to Your Health.” Set against a clean, flavour-coded palette, the clean sans feels light and approachable — exactly the sparkling, accessible personality KeVita carries. It is fresh rather than earthy, mirroring a sparkling probiotic refresher. (KeVita’s real wordmark is a trademark we describe but do not reproduce, and the exact typeface is not something we assert.) Because the specific mark is not ours to use, the honest description is “a clean sans spirit,” not the KeVita logo. The type behaves like the brand: fresh, clean and modern.

Lightness as the difference

KeVita stands for accessible fermentation.

KeVita is a lesson in lowering the intensity to widen the appeal. It did not aim for the most potent, tangy kombucha; it made a lighter, sparkling probiotic drink that felt like a refresher, an easy entry for people new to fermented drinks. That accessibility made it attractive — ultimately to PepsiCo, which acquired it to enter the space. The differentiator is lightness: make the functional feel effortless, and the audience grows.

For designers and brand-builders, KeVita offers a clear takeaway: a clean, bright identity can reposition a “serious” category as everyday. The lessons: keep the palette clean and flavour-coded; signal benefits simply; and let a fresh, sparkling voice do the work. It is also a reminder to stay accurate: KeVita was founded in 2009 by two co-founders, its name means Kefir plus Vitality, and it is now a PepsiCo brand — with the palette here an unofficial interpretation. KeVita made fermentation light — proof that lightness can be the difference.
