The clean makeup that is 100% skincare too

Kosas is the clean makeup-skincare hybrid brand built on a skin-improving concealer.

Kosas brings the round a tagline that is a thesis — the clean makeup-skincare hybrid built on a skin-improving concealer, and sold as “100% Makeup. 100% Skincare.” Kosas makes clean makeup, and its answer to a round about the clean face is a two-in-one: colour cosmetics formulated to care for skin, anchored by a concealer that became a viral best-seller. A brand, hybrid.

Its identity is the clean makeup that is 100% skincare too. Kosas’ hero, its hybrid thesis and its founder are the story here. A brand, hybrid. The clean makeup that is 100% skincare too.

(Honest notes, so the story stays precise, and the claims stay the brand’s own. Kosas, at kosas.com, makes clean makeup-skincare hybrids — complexion, concealer, cream blush, lip, mascara and powder, plus some skincare and SPF — its hero the Revealer Concealer, offered in a broad shade range, and we report its clean, skin-improving and clinically-tested language as the brand’s own marketing, not established fact; clean beauty is an unregulated term. It was founded around 2015 by Sheena Yaitanes, a chemist and artist, in Los Angeles. On where it is made, a theme of this round, a country of manufacture is not documented, so we do not assert one. On ownership, a star theme of this round, it is founder-led and independent, with the founder as chief executive, and outside investment is referenced but the specifics are not verifiable, so we say only that it is founder-led with unverified funding, and it is not conglomerate-owned. Its name, its product names such as Revealer and its “100% Makeup. 100% Skincare.” line are IP we describe but do not reproduce; there is no official brand hex; these tones are an unofficial interpretation.)

Colour

Kosas lives in a coral. Click a swatch to copy the hex.

Kosas’ identity is hybrid, clean and warm — a coral, an ink, a peach, a deep rust, and a paper. The palette leans coral and peach: a warm, skin-flush register that nods to a cream blush and a skin-improving finish rather than a loud palette. It signals clean makeup-skincare. The honest caveat: with no published brand hex, these values are an original, unofficial interpretation, not first-party colours.

The lesson is a coral signals a hybrid, warm identity. Kosas’ world is a considered, made object. For designers, it is a reminder that a coral and a soft peach can carry a makeup brand — the tone of a warm flush. Because these tones can fail as small text, keep type dark and let the colour live in the accents, palette and band. The takeaways: make it a hybrid; care for skin; report claims as marketing; and treat any single hex as unofficial.

Typography

The register is a skin-hybrid sans — hybrid, plain, warm.

Kosas’ identity carries a hybrid, plain, warm spirit — a clean brand, not a fashion. A skin-hybrid sans captures the mood: clean, plain and confident, the register of a two-in-one. Set in a coral palette, the skin-hybrid sans feels hybrid and warm — exactly the personality Kosas carries. It is a thesis rather than a logo, mirroring a cream and skin. (Kosas’ real packaging is a thing we describe but do not reproduce, and the exact typeface is not ours to use.) Because it is not ours to use, the honest description is “a skin-hybrid-sans makeup,” shown here in a stand-in. The type behaves like the brand: hybrid, plain and warm.

The clean face

Kosas stands for the clean makeup that is 100% skincare too.

Kosas brings the round a tagline that is a thesis. A coral palette, a skin-hybrid sans and a two-in-one hero make one thing — the clean makeup that is 100% skincare too — the whole identity: hybrid, clean and warm. The hero is the Revealer Concealer, and the hybrid thesis is the meaning. The point is colour cosmetics formulated to care for skin, told in one confident line.

Put to work, the identity is a thesis told straight, as design — with the claims kept as claims and the making undocumented. A maker in this spirit would make it a hybrid, care for skin, and report claims as marketing. A reader in this spirit would keep the facts right: Kosas makes clean makeup-skincare hybrids, its Revealer Concealer the hero; it was founded around 2015 by Sheena Yaitanes, a chemist and artist, in Los Angeles; a country of manufacture is undocumented; and it is founder-led and independent, with unverified outside funding, not conglomerate-owned. Kosas joins Ilia and Tower 28 on the round’s skin-first thread, and the independent side of the who-owns thread. The honest editorial moves are to date it to around 2015, to name the founder, to say the making is undocumented, and to report the skin-improving language as marketing. The lesson Kosas teaches is that a hybrid thesis can be a whole identity, and reporting the claims as marketing keeps it credible.

For designers and brand-builders, Kosas continues the clean face: make it a hybrid — and care for skin. The lessons: build a brand on a two-in-one thesis; anchor it with a viral hero; report clean and skin-improving language as your own; keep a bold tagline honest; and never reproduce packaging. It is also a reminder to stay precise: Kosas is the clean makeup-skincare hybrid brand built on a skin-improving concealer — with the palette here an unofficial interpretation. Read that way, Kosas is less a compact than a thesis: makeup and skincare, at once. The lesson for a brand is that a thesis and honest claims reinforce each other, and reporting the skin-improving language as the brand’s own keeps the story earned. Kosas made the-clean-makeup-that-is-100%-skincare-too the identity — proof that a thesis can carry a hero. And it is the round’s clearest statement of the vein’s premise, that the clean face is one where the line between makeup and skincare has been deliberately, and profitably, erased.

Source & notes

Editorial reference. This article reports publicly documented facts about Kosas’ visual identity as design commentary; it is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, Kosas. The Kosas name, product names (Revealer, DreamBeam) and the “100% Makeup. 100% Skincare.” tagline are IP of their owner — the graphics here are original abstract homages (colour discs and cream/skin texture swatches); no compact, stick, or logo is reproduced, and all specimen text is set in a Google-Font stand-in. Facts reported from the maker’s site (kosas.com): Kosas makes clean makeup-skincare hybrids (complexion, Revealer Concealer, cream blush, lip, mascara, powder, plus skincare/SPF such as DreamBeam), hero = Revealer Concealer (broad shade range, a viral best-seller); founder Sheena Yaitanes (formerly Sheena Zadeh; a chemist/artist), founded ~2015 in Los Angeles. Honest notes: a country of manufacture is NOT documented (not asserted); it is founder-led/independent (founder as CEO), with outside investment referenced but specifics NOT verifiable — reported as “founder-led, funding unverified,” NOT conglomerate-owned; “clean”/”skin-improving”/”clinically-tested”/SPF language is the brand’s own marketing (clean beauty is unregulated; SPF is regulated OTC positioning), reported neutrally, never as medical fact; cruelty-free (Leaping Bunny) is the brand’s stated/third-party status. No official brand hex is used, so the tones here are an unofficial interpretation.
