The mineral family sunscreen, EWG-rated

Thinkbaby is the safe-ingredient mineral sunscreen for families, now presented as Thinksun.

Thinkbaby closes the fourth sun round with safety — the mineral sunscreen brand, founded by Kevin Brodwick on a safe-ingredients mission, an early favourite of ingredient-rating groups, built for babies, kids and sport, and now presented under the name Thinksun. Thinkbaby makes mineral sun care, and its answer to a round about sun care is trust: a non-nano zinc sunscreen aimed at the most cautious buyers, from a brand that started by removing a controversial chemical from baby bottles. A brand, safe.

Its identity is the mineral family sunscreen, EWG-rated. Thinkbaby’s safe-ingredients mission, its mineral formula and its family focus are the story here. A brand, safe. The mineral family sunscreen, EWG-rated.

(Honest notes, so the story stays precise, and the claims stay the brand’s own. Thinkbaby, whose consumer presence is now the site Thinksun, makes mineral, zinc-oxide sunscreens across a Thinkbaby line for babies and kids, a Thinksport line for adults and sport, and a daily line, marketed as free of a list of chemicals and highly rated by an ingredient-rating group, and because sunscreen is a regulated over-the-counter drug in the United States and reef-safe is not a settled term, we report every protection, safe-ingredient, non-nano and reef claim strictly as the brand’s own marketing, never as established or settled fact, and we give no sun-safety advice. It was founded in 2006 by Kevin Brodwick, beginning with a chemical-free baby bottle before sunscreen followed a few years later, and it is historically United States-based. On its name, a note matters: the consumer brand now presents as Thinksun, its old site redirects there, and it no longer holds the thinksport-dot-com domain, so we use the current site and the enduring Thinkbaby name for the famous baby line. On where it is made, a theme of this round, a country of manufacture is not documented, so we do not assert one. On ownership, it is founder-associated with Kevin Brodwick, with ownership not otherwise documented, so we do not assert independent or investor status. Its names and packaging are IP we describe but do not reproduce; there is no official brand hex; these tones are an unofficial interpretation.)

Colour

Thinkbaby lives in a family sky. Click a swatch to copy the hex.

Thinkbaby’s identity is safe, clean and family — a family sky, an ink, a sky, a deep blue, and a paper. The palette leans family sky and sky: a friendly, reassuring register that nods to a mineral formula and a cautious family buyer rather than a loud palette. It signals mineral family sun care. The honest caveat: with no published brand hex, these values are an original, unofficial interpretation, not first-party colours.

The lesson is a family sky signals a safe, family identity. Thinkbaby’s world is a reassuring, made object. For designers, it is a reminder that a family sky and a soft sky can carry a sunscreen brand — the tone of safety. Because these tones can fail as small text, keep type dark and let the colour live in the accents, palette and band. The takeaways: lead with safety; go mineral; report claims as marketing; and treat any single hex as unofficial.

Typography

The register is a mineral-family sans — safe, plain, reassuring.

Thinkbaby’s identity carries a safe, plain, reassuring spirit — a mineral family brand, not a fashion. A mineral-family sans captures the mood: clean, safe and confident, the register of a cautious family brand. Set in a family-sky palette, the mineral-family sans feels safe and reassuring — exactly the personality Thinkbaby carries. It is a mission rather than a logo, mirroring a sunscreen and zinc. (Thinkbaby’s real packaging is a thing we describe but do not reproduce, and the exact typeface is not ours to use.) Because it is not ours to use, the honest description is “a mineral-family-sans sunscreen,” shown here in a stand-in. The type behaves like the brand: safe, plain and reassuring.

Who owns the sun

Thinkbaby stands for the mineral family sunscreen, EWG-rated.

Thinkbaby closes the round with safety. A family-sky palette, a mineral-family sans and a safe-ingredients mission make one thing — the mineral family sunscreen, EWG-rated — the whole identity: safe, clean and family. The safe-ingredients mission is the concept, and the mineral formula is the proof. The point is a non-nano zinc sunscreen for the most cautious buyers, from a brand that started by removing a chemical from baby bottles.

Put to work, the identity is safety told straight, as design. A maker in this spirit would lead with safety, go mineral, and report claims as marketing. A reader in this spirit would keep the facts right: Thinkbaby makes mineral zinc sunscreens for babies, kids and sport; it was founded in 2006 by Kevin Brodwick, starting with a chemical-free baby bottle; its consumer presence is now Thinksun, and it no longer holds the thinksport-dot-com domain, so the current site is used; a country of manufacture is undocumented; and it is founder-associated, with ownership not otherwise documented. Thinkbaby is the round’s one independent-ish brand, against six conglomerate-owned peers. The honest editorial moves are to date it to 2006, to note the Thinksun rebrand and the correct site, to say the making and ownership are undocumented, and to report the safe-ingredient and reef claims as marketing. The lesson Thinkbaby teaches is that a safety mission can be a whole identity, and reporting the claims as marketing keeps it credible.

For designers and brand-builders, Thinkbaby closes who owns the sun: lead with safety — and go mineral. The lessons: build a brand on a safety mission; commit to a mineral, family formula; report safe-ingredient, non-nano and reef language strictly as your own, since reef-safe is unsettled; keep the current name and site straight after a rebrand; and never reproduce packaging. It is also a reminder to stay precise: Thinkbaby is the safe-ingredient mineral sunscreen for families, now presented as Thinksun — with the palette here an unofficial interpretation. Read that way, Thinkbaby is less a bottle than a mission: safety, for families, closing the round. The lesson for a brand is that a mission and honest claims reinforce each other, and noting the Thinksun rebrand keeps the story earned. Thinkbaby made the-mineral-family-sunscreen-EWG-rated the identity — proof that safety can close a round.

Source & notes

Editorial reference. This article reports publicly documented facts about Thinkbaby’s visual identity as design commentary; it is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, Thinkbaby/Thinksun. The Thinkbaby, Thinksport and Thinksun names and packaging are IP of their owner — the graphics here are original abstract homages (colour discs and sunscreen/zinc texture swatches); no bottle or logo is reproduced, and all specimen text is set in a Google-Font stand-in. Facts reported from the maker’s site (thinksun.com — gothink.com redirects there): the company makes mineral (non-nano zinc-oxide) sunscreens across a Thinkbaby (baby/kids) line, a Thinksport (adult/sport) line and a daily line, marketed as free of a list of chemicals and highly rated by an ingredient-rating group (EWG); founded 2006 by Kevin Brodwick (starting with a BPA-free baby bottle; sunscreen followed ~2010). Honest notes: ⚠ the consumer brand now presents as “Thinksun” (thinksun.com); it no longer holds “thinksport.com” (now an unrelated site) — the current site is used, with the enduring “Thinkbaby” name for the well-known baby line; a country of manufacture is NOT documented (no “Made in USA” asserted); ownership is NOT documented beyond founder-association with Kevin Brodwick (independent-vs-investor NOT asserted). ⚠ Sunscreen is a REGULATED OTC drug in the US, and “reef-safe” is not a settled term — ALL SPF/broad-spectrum/”safe”/non-nano/EWG/reef claims are the brand’s own marketing, reported neutrally, NEVER as established/settled fact, and no sun-safety advice is given. No official brand hex is used, so the tones here are an unofficial interpretation.
