White Claw Brand Guidelines
Grab life by the claw.

Two constants: a minimalist silver palette and a clean, geometric wordmark. Abstract homage — not the White Claw wave mark, wordmark or cans.
The seltzer that set the template
White Claw made minimalism the category default.
White Claw is a lesson in owning a category by looking calm. Launched in 2016 by Mark Anthony Brands (the private company behind Mike’s Hard Lemonade, founded by Anthony von Mandl), it became the runaway leader of the US hard-seltzer boom — commanding the majority of the category by 2019. Its look, not just its taste, defined the whole segment.
The product is a fermented-sugar “flavoured malt beverage,” around 5% ABV, gluten-free, with a light flavour and low calories. Its design was the differentiator: stripped-back silver-and-white cans with a distinctive wave mark — three wavy lines whose peaks curl like claw scratches — and per-flavour colour banding. Competitors copied the restraint.
(Honest notes: White Claw is fermented from sugar, not made with vodka — and its short-lived White Claw Vodka Soda was phased out in 2025, so vodka isn’t a current core product; the famous “ain’t no laws when you’re drinking Claws” line was a fan-made 2019 meme (the brand actually sent a cease-and-desist), while the official slogan is “Grab Life by the Claw” (2024). No official brand hex is published.)
Colour
White Claw lives in silver and wave-blue. Click a swatch to copy the hex.
White Claw’s identity is minimalist, silver and cool — a claw black, a silver, a wave blue, an ice tone, and a charcoal. The base is deliberately quiet: silver-and-white cans that let per-flavour colour accents do the talking. It signals a clean, modern, unfussy drink rather than a loud novelty. The honest caveat: with no published brand hex, these tones are an original, unofficial interpretation, not first-party values.
The lesson is restraint can win a loud category. White Claw’s world is silver and calm, and that calm read as premium next to busier rivals. For designers, it is a reminder that in a crowded, colourful segment, stripping back can stand out — a minimalist can plus a single memorable mark. The takeaways: keep the base neutral and quiet; add colour only as a flavour accent; and treat any single hex as unofficial — using near-black for small text so the silver stays clean.
Typography
The wordmark spirit is a clean geometric sans — cool and modern.
White Claw’s identity carries a cool, modern, minimalist spirit — an upright, clean wordmark set against the fluid wave mark. A clean geometric sans captures the mood: it is composed and contemporary, the register of a brand that won by looking calm. Set against silver and a wave blue, the clean type feels modern and premium — exactly the effortless, category-leading personality White Claw carries. It is restrained rather than loud, mirroring a can built on white space. (White Claw’s real wordmark, the wave mark and the cans are trademarks and trade dress we describe but do not reproduce, and the exact typeface is not published, so we don’t assert it.) Because the specific mark is not ours to use, the honest description is “a clean geometric spirit,” not the White Claw logo. The type behaves like the brand: cool, clean and confident.

Winning a boom by looking calm
White Claw stands for the wave.
White Claw is a lesson in defining a category’s look. As hard seltzer exploded, White Claw’s minimalist silver can and simple wave mark became the template every rival chased — proof that a restrained, confident identity can dominate a loud, fast-growing segment. It didn’t just lead on sales; it set the visual grammar of the whole category. The differentiator is disciplined minimalism.
For designers and brand-builders, White Claw offers a clear takeaway: in a noisy category, calm is a strategy. The lessons: reduce the can to a neutral base and one memorable mark; use colour only to signal flavour; and let the market’s imitation confirm your design leadership. It is also a reminder to stay accurate: White Claw is a fermented-sugar seltzer (not vodka), the “ain’t no laws” line was fan-made, and its official slogan is “Grab Life by the Claw” — with the palette here an unofficial interpretation. White Claw set the template — proof that restraint can be the difference.
