2Naturkinder Brand Guidelines
One animal per wine.

Two constants: a dusk-indigo-and-coral palette and a friendly rounded register. Abstract homage — not the 2Naturkinder labels or illustrations.
One animal per wine
2Naturkinder builds its identity from a menagerie, not a wordmark.
2Naturkinder is a lesson in a system, not a logo. The estate on the river Main dates to 1843; Michael Völker and Melanie Drese, a couple who left careers in science publishing, took the reins in 2012 and launched their first natural wines with the 2013 vintage, in Kitzingen, in the Franken region of Bavaria, Germany. They farm organically, hand-pick, and channel a share of revenue to bat conservation — bat boxes in the vineyards supply guano used as fertiliser, a closed pest-control loop built around the rare grey long-eared bat.
Its brand identity is a named-illustrator system. The labels are designed by Jana Rauthenstrauch, a Würzburg graphic designer working as “Grete macht Grafik,” whose organising idea is one animal per wine — a whole menagerie rather than a wordmark, so well that customers remember the animal, not the name. A 2023 redesign introduced linocut-style illustrations of local wild animals. There is even a rule in the range: colourful labels are the blends; black-and-white labels sealed with coloured wax are the single-vineyard wines — the palette encodes the tier.
(Honest notes: this is a revived estate, not a brand “founded in 2013” — the winery dates to 1843, the couple took over in 2012, and 2013 was the first natural vintage. The illustrator is Jana Rauthenstrauch, not one of the owners. The bats supply fertiliser, nothing lurid. And there’s no official brand hex, so the tones here are an unofficial interpretation.)
Colour
2Naturkinder lives in a dusk-indigo-and-coral palette. Click a swatch to copy the hex.
2Naturkinder’s identity is warm, folk and nature-forward — an ink, a dusk indigo, a leaf green, a coral, and a cream. The palette pairs a twilight indigo (the hour of the bats) with a warm coral and a leaf green — the register of a folk print and a Franconian meadow at dusk. It signals charm and nature rather than luxury. The honest caveat: with no published brand hex, these tones are an original, unofficial interpretation, not first-party values.
The lesson is a dusk indigo with a coral signals a warm, folk, nature-forward brand. 2Naturkinder’s world is a linocut menagerie of local animals. For designers, it is a reminder that a twilight indigo with a coral and a leaf green reads as charming and natural — right for a wildlife-illustrated label. The takeaways: build a warm, folk spectrum; let colour carry meaning (blends versus single-vineyard); and treat any single hex as unofficial — using ink for small text so the palette stays clean.
Typography
The register is a friendly rounded — warm, folk, storybook.
2Naturkinder’s identity carries a warm, folk, storybook spirit — a menagerie of hand-cut animals. A friendly rounded face captures the mood: it is soft and characterful, the register of a charming, illustrated brand. Set in a dusk-indigo-and-coral palette, the friendly rounded feels warm and folk — exactly the personality 2Naturkinder carries. It is characterful rather than corporate, mirroring a linocut label. (2Naturkinder’s real labels and Jana Rauthenstrauch’s illustrations are works we describe but do not reproduce, and the exact typeface is not ours to use.) Because they are not ours to use, the honest description is “a friendly rounded spirit,” shown here in a stand-in. The type behaves like the brand: warm, folk and characterful.

A system as identity
2Naturkinder stands for a menagerie that does the remembering.
2Naturkinder is a lesson in making a system the identity. A dusk-indigo-and-coral palette, a friendly rounded face and a one-animal-per-wine menagerie make the system itself the whole brand — warm, folk, coherent. The system is the differentiator. The differentiator is a named-illustrator, wildlife, colour-coded identity.
For designers and brand-builders, 2Naturkinder offers a clear takeaway: a system can out-remember a logo. The lessons: commission and credit a real illustrator (Jana Rauthenstrauch / “Grete macht Grafik”); give the range one organising idea (an animal per wine, in linocut); and let colour carry meaning (colourful blends versus black-and-white, wax-sealed single-vineyards). It is also a reminder to stay accurate: the estate dates to 1843 (2013 was the first natural vintage), the illustrator is named, and the palette here is an unofficial interpretation. 2Naturkinder made a system the brand — proof that a menagerie can be the difference.
