Austrian Audio Brand Guidelines
The AKG-Vienna successor.

Two constants: a Vienna-amber palette and a heritage-serif register. Abstract homage — not an Austrian Audio product or mark; no microphone, capsule or logo is reproduced.
The AKG-Vienna successor
Austrian Audio is the Vienna maker founded by 22 ex-AKG staff after the 2017 Vienna closure, now majority-owned by DPA.
Austrian Audio brings the round its successor node — a Vienna company born directly from the closure of AKG’s Vienna operations, carrying that capsule knowledge forward under a new name. Its answer to a round about who owns the studio microphone and where it is made is a Viennese one with a recent ownership change: made in Vienna, founded by ex-AKG staff, and now majority-owned by DPA.
Its identity is the AKG-Vienna successor. The ex-AKG-Vienna founding, the Vienna manufacturing and the recent DPA ownership are the story here. A microphone, successor. The AKG-Vienna successor.
(Honest notes, so the founding — a genuinely remarkable one — the ownership and the AKG reference are framed accurately and carefully. Austrian Audio sells large-diaphragm condensers as its heroes — the OC818 and OC18, built on its in-house CKR12 capsule, with the OC818 offering dual-output, app-controlled and post-adjustable polar patterns — plus its Hi-X headphones, and we report its language as the brand’s own. On the founding, the key fact: Austrian Audio was founded in July 2017 by a core team of 22 former AKG employees, after Samsung’s late-2016 acquisition of Harman, AKG’s parent, led to the closure of AKG’s Vienna operations and its roughly 130-person factory in 2017, so it is genuinely the AKG-Vienna successor. On ownership, the correction that matters: Austrian Audio was independent from 2017 until 2025, when DPA Microphones acquired a majority share, so it is now DPA-controlled, not independent, while retaining its Austrian presence. On where it is made: Vienna, Austria. On the AKG reference, handled with care: its CKR12 capsule continues the AKG capsule lineage through the people and knowledge of its founders, but it is a new Austrian Audio design, not AKG IP, and we state the ex-AKG background as fact without using AKG marks or implying AKG affiliation or endorsement. Its designs, the Austrian Audio name and the OC818, CKR12 and Hi-X marks are IP we describe but do not reproduce; these tones are an unofficial interpretation.)
Colour
Austrian Audio lives in a Vienna amber. Click a swatch to copy the hex.
Austrian Audio’s identity is Viennese, heritage-rooted and expert — a Vienna amber, an ink, a pale straw, a deep bronze, and a paper. The palette leans Vienna amber and pale straw: a warm, heritage register that nods to Viennese capsule craft rather than a loud logo colour. It signals the AKG-Vienna successor — Viennese, heritage-rooted and expert. The honest caveat: with no published brand hex, these values are an original, unofficial interpretation, not first-party colours.
The lesson is a Vienna amber signals a heritage-rooted, expert identity. Austrian Audio’s world is Viennese capsule expertise carried out of AKG into a new house. For designers, it is a reminder that a warm Vienna amber and a soft pale straw can carry a hardware brand — a heritage tone held as colour, not a product shot. Because these tones can fail as small text, keep type dark and let the colour live in the accents, palette and band. The takeaways: tell the 22-ex-AKG-staff founding accurately; date it to 2017; correct the ownership to DPA-majority since 2025; keep it Vienna-made; and state the AKG background as fact without endorsement.
Typography
The register is a heritage serif — Viennese, heritage-rooted, expert.
Austrian Audio’s identity carries a Viennese, heritage-rooted, expert spirit — a successor to a closed institution, not a startup from nowhere. A heritage serif captures the mood: refined, considered and authoritative, the register of carried-forward expertise. Set in a Vienna-amber palette, the heritage serif feels Viennese and heritage-rooted — exactly the personality Austrian Audio carries. It behaves like a made, expert thing rather than a loud logo, mirroring a capsule-diaphragm ring and a polar-pattern figure. (Austrian Audio’s real products and the names are things we describe but do not reproduce, no AKG marks are used, and the exact typeface is not ours to use.) Because it is not ours to use, the honest description is “a heritage-serif brand,” shown here in a stand-in. The type behaves like the brand: Viennese, heritage-rooted and expert.

The studio microphone
Austrian Audio stands for the AKG-Vienna successor.
Austrian Audio brings the round its successor node. A Vienna-amber palette, a heritage serif and a 2017 founding make one thing — the AKG-Vienna successor — the whole identity: Viennese, heritage-rooted and expert. The ex-AKG-Vienna founding is the frame, and the OC818 with its CKR12 capsule is the proof. The point is a house that carried AKG’s Vienna capsule knowledge forward, in a round about who owns the studio microphone and where it is made.
Put to work, the identity is the brand told straight, the founding told accurately and the ownership corrected. A brand in this spirit would tell the 22-ex-AKG-staff founding accurately, date it to 2017, and correct the ownership to DPA-majority since 2025. A reader in this spirit would keep the facts right: Austrian Audio sells the OC818 and OC18, on its CKR12 capsule, plus Hi-X headphones, as heroes; it was founded in 2017 by 22 former AKG staff after AKG’s Vienna closure; it was independent until DPA took a majority in 2025; it is made in Vienna; and its capsule continues AKG lineage via people and knowledge, not AKG IP. Austrian Audio sits sixth in the round, after Lewitt. The honest editorial moves are to tell the founding accurately, to date it to 2017, to correct the ownership to DPA-majority, to keep it Vienna-made, and to state the AKG background as fact without endorsement.
For designers and brand-builders, Austrian Audio continues the studio microphone: carry expertise out of a closed institution — and correct the ownership and the heritage claim precisely. The lessons: a team can carry deep expertise out of a closed operation, here AKG’s Vienna factory, into a genuine successor; a founding story of 22 former employees is remarkable and worth telling accurately; an ownership change — DPA’s 2025 majority — means “independent” must be corrected; and a capsule lineage can be honoured through people and knowledge while being a new design, not the former owner’s IP or a licensed mark. It is also a reminder to stay precise: Austrian Audio is the Vienna maker founded by 22 ex-AKG staff after the 2017 Vienna closure, now majority-owned by DPA — with the palette here an unofficial interpretation. The hook is that succession: when Samsung’s Harman closed AKG’s Vienna operations in 2017, 22 of its people founded Austrian Audio and carried that capsule knowledge forward — the OC818 built on their own CKR12 capsule, drawing on the AKG lineage through expertise rather than IP — a genuine successor, made in Vienna, and since 2025 majority-owned by DPA rather than independent. Read that way, Austrian Audio is less a startup than an AKG-Vienna successor: Viennese, heritage-rooted, expert. The lesson for a brand is that carried-forward expertise and precise ownership-and-heritage correction reinforce each other, and telling the 2017 founding and the DPA majority accurately keeps the story earned. Austrian Audio made the-AKG-Vienna-successor the identity — proof that succession can carry a round.
