Drôle de Monsieur Brand Guidelines
Not from Paris.

Two constants: an ochre-and-teal palette and a bold sans register. Abstract homage — not a Drôle de Monsieur piece, slogan or wordmark.
Not from Paris
Drôle de Monsieur built an identity on being French but not Parisian.
Drôle de Monsieur is a lesson in an underdog origin as the identity. A French label, it turned a fact — that it was built far from the fashion capital — into its whole brand, through the defiant slogan “Not From Paris Madame.”
Its identity is not from Paris. Drôle de Monsieur’s slogan tees, its clean logo-forward streetwear and its outsider attitude are the work it is known for. French, but proudly provincial. A label that made its distance from Paris the point.
(Honest notes, because the name plays a trick worth explaining. Drôle de Monsieur is a French brand founded in 2014 by two self-taught childhood friends, Dany Dos Santos and Maxime Schwab — and, crucially, it was born in Dijon, not Paris, which is the entire point of its identity; it now has a Paris flagship in the Marais and a Seoul store, and staged its first runway show for Fall 2024, so it is expanding, not retreating. Its signature is elevated French streetwear organised around the “Not From Paris Madame,” or NFPM, slogan — an anti-establishment statement that they built a label from outside the Paris system — executed as clean, logo-forward, minimalist tailored streetwear with a 1970s-print-and-1990s-French-rap memory. On production, the honest point: its core NFPM cotton pieces are made in Portugal, not France — the “French” identity is cultural attitude, not a manufacturing claim. On ownership, it is founder-led and independent; its Seoul flagship is run with the Korean group Kolon as a distribution partner, which is not ownership or investment. A couple of traps: it is not the label of Simon Porte Jacquemus — that is the unrelated brand Jacquemus — and its seasonal themes, like the “Sin City” collection, are just themes, not the brand’s heritage. Its wordmark and the NFPM slogan lettering are IP we describe but never reproduce, and there is no official brand hex — these tones are an unofficial interpretation. This is design commentary and does not promote any product.)
Colour
Drôle de Monsieur lives in an ochre-and-teal palette. Click a swatch to copy the hex.
Drôle de Monsieur’s identity is warm, retro and self-aware — an ochre, an ink, a teal, a graphite, and a cream. The palette leans ochre and teal: the register of a 1970s poster and a knowing wink rather than Parisian polish. It signals attitude and warmth over luxury gloss. The honest caveat: with no published brand hex, these values are an original, unofficial interpretation, not first-party colours.
The lesson is an ochre-and-teal palette signals an outsider warmth. Drôle de Monsieur’s world is a warm, retro, self-aware object. For designers, it is a reminder that a palette can carry a point of view — that a brand built on being the underdog can use warm, slightly retro colour to feel human and defiant rather than aloof. Because a mid ochre can fail as small text, keep type dark and let the colour live in the accents, palette and band. The takeaways: own your origin; make the attitude the identity; keep the palette warm; and treat any single hex as unofficial.
Typography
The register is a bold sans — confident, graphic, slogan-ready.
Drôle de Monsieur’s identity carries a confident, graphic, slogan-ready spirit — an attitude object, not a quiet luxury piece. A bold sans captures the mood: assertive and legible, the register of a statement worn across the chest. Set in an ochre-and-teal palette, the bold sans feels defiant and warm — exactly the personality Drôle de Monsieur carries. It is declarative rather than decorative, mirroring a slogan tee. (Drôle de Monsieur’s real garments, wordmark and NFPM slogan are things we describe but do not reproduce, and the exact typeface is not ours to use.) Because it is not ours to use, the honest description is “a bold-sans spirit,” shown here in a stand-in. The type behaves like the brand: confident, graphic and slogan-ready.

An origin as identity
Drôle de Monsieur stands for not from Paris.
Drôle de Monsieur is a lesson in making an underdog origin the identity. An ochre-and-teal palette, a bold sans and the “Not From Paris Madame” slogan make being an outsider the whole brand — warm, defiant and self-aware. The origin is the differentiator. The differentiator is turning a supposed disadvantage — being built far from Paris — into the whole story, worn as a slogan and backed by clean, confident design.
Put to work, the identity is an attitude as design. A house building in this spirit would find the true thing that sets it apart — a place, a background, an outsider status — and put it at the centre, letting a slogan and a consistent look carry it, so the customer buys into a point of view as much as a garment. The lesson Drôle de Monsieur teaches is that an honest origin plus a confident design language can build a brand: the story gives it distinctiveness, and the clean execution keeps it from being a one-line joke. The origin is the personality, and the design is the proof.
For designers and brand-builders, Drôle de Monsieur offers a clear takeaway: make your origin the story. The lessons: own where you come from; turn it into an attitude; keep the design confident; and be honest about the details. It is also a reminder to stay accurate: Drôle de Monsieur was founded in 2014 by Dos Santos and Schwab, it is Dijon-born rather than Parisian, its core cotton is made in Portugal rather than France, and its Kolon link is a Seoul distribution partnership rather than ownership — the palette here is an unofficial interpretation, and it should not be confused with Jacquemus. Drôle de Monsieur made “not from Paris” the brand — proof that an origin can be the difference.
