The portable projector from a power company

Nebula is Anker’s portable projector line, now under soundcore, that shrank home cinema into a soda can with the same DNA that built a charger empire.

Nebula closes the projector round as its portable node — the projector line from a company that made its name in portable power, applying that same instinct to the movie screen. Nebula launched in 2018 as a sub-brand of Anker Innovations, the Chinese electronics company founded in 2011 by a former Google engineer. Nebula makes and sells the portable projectors, and its answer to a round about where projectors are made and who owns them is honest, with a recent twist: made in China, by Anker, and now folded into Anker’s audio brand.

Its identity is the portable projector from a power company. The pocketable soda-can form, the Anker portable-power DNA and the move under soundcore are the story here. A projector, portable. The portable projector from a power company.

(Honest notes, so the ownership and status are framed accurately. Nebula sells portable projectors as its heroes — the soda-can-sized Capsule, the rugged lantern-style Mars that launched the line, the Cosmos home series and the flagship Nebula X1 with a 4K triple-laser and a gimbal — most with a smart-TV operating system, a battery and auto-focus and keystone — and we report its performance language as the brand’s own. On status, the point to get right: Nebula launched in 2018, not 2017, and in 2025 the Nebula brand was folded into soundcore, Anker’s audio brand, so it is now a projector line under soundcore rather than a standalone sub-brand; we frame it that way and do not write it in the present tense as an independent sub-brand. On the parent: Anker Innovations is a Chinese company, listed in Shenzhen, whose other lines include soundcore and Eufy. On where it is made: China. Its designs and the Nebula, Anker, soundcore and Capsule names are IP we describe but do not reproduce; there is no official brand hex; these tones are an unofficial interpretation.)

Colour

Nebula lives in a capsule green. Click a swatch to copy the hex.

Nebula’s identity is portable, lifestyle and approachable — a capsule green, an ink, a pale sage, a deep forest, and a paper. The palette leans capsule green and pale sage: a fresh, friendly register that nods to a grab-and-go device rather than a loud logo colour. It signals a portable projector — pocketable, battery-powered and easy. The honest caveat: with no published brand hex, these values are an original, unofficial interpretation, not first-party colours.

The lesson is a capsule green signals a portable, lifestyle identity. Nebula’s world is a tiny projector you carry like a power bank and set on a table anywhere. For designers, it is a reminder that a fresh capsule green and a soft pale sage can carry a maker brand — a friendly tone held as colour, not a product shot. Because these tones can fail as small text, keep type dark and let the colour live in the accents, palette and band. The takeaways: date it to 2018; name the Anker parent and the move under soundcore; note the portable-power DNA; keep the status current; and treat any single hex as unofficial.

Typography

The register is a portable sans — friendly, pocketable, approachable.

Nebula’s identity carries a friendly, pocketable, approachable spirit — a lifestyle-electronics line, not a heritage projection house. A portable sans captures the mood: clean, warm and confident, the register of a grab-and-go device. Set in a capsule-green palette, the portable sans feels friendly and pocketable — exactly the personality Nebula carries. It behaves like a made, portable thing rather than a loud logo, mirroring a battery and a compact lens. (Nebula’s real projectors, the Capsule form and the names are things we describe but do not reproduce, and the exact typeface is not ours to use.) Because it is not ours to use, the honest description is “a portable-sans brand,” shown here in a stand-in. The type behaves like the brand: friendly, pocketable and approachable.

The projector

Nebula stands for the portable projector from a power company.

Nebula closes the projector round as its portable node. A capsule-green palette, a portable sans and a 2018 launch make one thing — the portable projector from a power company — the whole identity: portable, lifestyle and approachable. The pocketable soda-can form is the pitch, and the Anker portable-power DNA is the character. The point is a projector line from a portable-power company, in a round about where projectors are made and how the category went portable.

Put to work, the identity is the brand told straight, status current and parent named. A maker in this spirit would date it to 2018, name the Anker parent and the move under soundcore, and note the portable-power DNA. A reader in this spirit would keep the facts right: Nebula sells portable projectors as its heroes, led by the soda-can Capsule and the Nebula X1; it launched in 2018 as an Anker sub-brand; it is now a projector line under soundcore, Anker’s audio brand; and it is made in China by Anker Innovations. Nebula closes the round, after JMGO, and ties the portable thread together. The honest editorial moves are to date it to 2018, to keep the status current under soundcore, to name the Anker parent, and to describe the Capsule rather than depict it.

For designers and brand-builders, Nebula closes the projector: let a portability instinct be the identity — and keep a brand’s current status accurate. The lessons: carry a company’s core strength into a new category; make portability the whole proposition; keep a brand’s status current when it is folded into another; describe a signature form rather than depict it; and never reproduce a logo. It is also a reminder to stay precise: Nebula is Anker’s portable projector line, now under soundcore, that shrank home cinema into a soda can with the same DNA that built a charger empire — with the palette here an unofficial interpretation. The hook is that instinct: Anker is fundamentally a portable-power company, and Nebula is that instinct applied to the movie screen — the soda-can-sized Capsule shrank the home cinema into a drinks can, turning the projector from a fixed ceiling fixture into something you carry like a battery pack. Read that way, Nebula is less a projector than a pocket cinema: friendly, pocketable, approachable. The lesson for a brand is that a core strength and honest status reinforce each other, and keeping the standing current keeps the story earned. Nebula made the-portable-projector-from-a-power-company the identity — proof that portability can close a round.

Editorial reference. This article reports publicly documented facts about Nebula’s visual identity as design commentary; it is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, Nebula, Anker or soundcore. The Nebula, Anker and soundcore names and their designs are IP of their owners — the graphics here are original abstract homages (colour discs and optics/light-beam texture swatches); no projector, the soda-can form, or logo is reproduced, and all specimen text is set in a Google-Font stand-in. Facts reported: Nebula sells portable smart projectors (the soda-can Capsule, the rugged Mars that launched the line, the Cosmos home series, and the flagship 4K triple-laser Nebula X1 with a gimbal) as its heroes; it launched in 2018 as a sub-brand of Anker Innovations (the Chinese electronics company founded in 2011 by Steven Yang, listed in Shenzhen, 300866). Honest notes: ⚠ Nebula launched in 2018 (not 2017); ⚠ in 2025 the Nebula brand was folded into soundcore, Anker’s audio brand — it is now a projector line under soundcore, not a standalone sub-brand in the present tense; it is made in China; other Anker lines include soundcore and Eufy; product names (Capsule, Mars, X1) are described, not stylised. No official brand hex is used, so the tones here are an unofficial interpretation.
