Bausele Brand Guidelines
The piece of Australia.
Aa
Two constants: an ocean-and-outback palette and an Australian sans register. Abstract homage — not the Bausele dial, crown or wordmark.
The piece of Australia
Bausele puts a piece of Australia in the crown.
Bausele is a lesson in a national element as the identity. An Australian brand founded in 2011 in Sydney, it hides a real piece of Australia inside the crown of every watch.
Its identity is the piece of Australia. Bausele’s crown capsule — holding beach sand or outback red earth — is the idea it is known for, across the OceanMoon diver and the Terra Australis dress watch. A landscape, worn on the wrist. Australia, literally carried.
(Honest notes: Bausele is an Australian watch brand founded in 2011 in Sydney by Christophe Hoppé, who came from the Swiss watch industry. Its signature is a hollow lower crown holding a real Australian element — beach sand in the OceanMoon diver, Kimberley red earth in the Terra Australis dress watch (which uses a proprietary “Bauselite” ceramic developed with Flinders University) — alongside a Pilot/Air Force line and the Elemental collection; we drop the premise’s “Vintage,” which isn’t a real collection. The brand name means “Beyond Australian Elements,” the crown-element concept, not “Beyond Australian Made.” On the movement, be clear: the calibres are Swiss (STP, Sellita) — the watches are Australian-designed and Swiss-powered, assembled to order, not Australian-made or in-house. It is independent and founder-led, and was the first Australian brand at Baselworld (2015). There’s no official brand hex, and we reproduce no dial or crown — these tones are an unofficial interpretation. This is design commentary and does not promote any product.)
Colour
Bausele lives in an ocean-and-outback palette. Click a swatch to copy the hex.
Bausele’s identity is elemental, warm and Australian — an ocean, an ink, an outback red, a sand, and a chalk. The palette leans ocean and outback — the register of Australian coast and desert. It signals place and landscape rather than novelty. The honest caveat: with no published brand hex, these tones are an original, unofficial interpretation, not first-party values.
The lesson is an ocean-and-outback palette signals a national element. Bausele’s world is an elemental, place-rooted object. For designers, it is a reminder that a literal piece of a place — sand, earth — can be the memorable hook, and that an ocean-and-outback palette signals that landscape. Because an ocean blue can fail as small text, keep type dark and let the colour live in the accents, palette and band. The takeaways: carry a piece of the place; name it for the land; keep it elemental; and treat any single hex as unofficial.
Typography
The register is an Australian sans — clean, sturdy, modern.
Bausele’s identity carries a clean, sturdy, modern spirit — an elemental, place-rooted object. A confident grotesque sans captures the mood: it is robust and contemporary, the register of a modern landscape brand. Set in an ocean-and-outback palette, the Australian sans feels clean and sturdy — exactly the personality Bausele carries. It is modern rather than rustic, mirroring a contemporary watch with a landscape story. (Bausele’s real dial, crown and wordmark are works we describe but do not reproduce, and the exact typeface is not ours to use.) Because it is not ours to use, the honest description is “an Australian sans spirit,” shown here in a stand-in. The type behaves like the brand: clean, sturdy and modern.

A national element as identity
Bausele stands for the piece of Australia.
Bausele is a lesson in carrying a piece of the place. An ocean-and-outback palette, an Australian sans and an element-filled crown make a national element the whole brand — elemental, warm, rooted. The element is the differentiator. The differentiator is a literal capsule of Australia — sand, red earth — hidden inside the crown of every watch.
Put to work, the identity is place made tangible. A designer building in this spirit would find one small, literal way to carry a place into the product, so the object holds a real piece of its story rather than just a picture of it. The lesson Bausele teaches is that a concrete gimmick, done sincerely, can be a brand: a crown that holds Australian sand or earth gives it a memorable, ownable hook, and an ocean-and-outback design language keeps that landscape legible.
For designers and brand-builders, Bausele offers a clear takeaway: carry a real piece of the story. The lessons: carry a piece of the place; name it for the land; keep it elemental; and be honest about the story. It is also a reminder to name things accurately: the brand is “Beyond Australian Elements,” not “Made,” and there is no “Vintage” collection — the palette here is an unofficial interpretation. And it is a reminder that movement honesty matters in watches: the calibres are Swiss, so the watch is Australian-designed and Swiss-powered, not Australian-made. It is a reminder, too, that a sincere gimmick beats a hollow one: because the crown really does hold a piece of the country, the story survives scrutiny in a way a mere motif never would. Bausele made the piece of Australia the brand — proof that a national element can be the difference.
