Nodus Brand Guidelines
The LA-assembled tool watch.

Two constants: a steel-and-dive palette and a tool sans register. Abstract homage — not the Nodus dial or wordmark.
The LA-assembled tool watch
Nodus assembles and regulates its watches in LA.
Nodus is a lesson in in-house assembly as the identity. An American microbrand founded in 2017 in Los Angeles, it assembles and regulates its clean tool watches by hand in the city.
Its identity is the LA-assembled tool watch. Nodus’ Sector II divers and Contrail are the watches it is known for — clean, utilitarian, and, unusually, assembled and regulated in-house in Los Angeles. A tool watch, tuned by hand. Value with real quality control.
(Honest notes: Nodus is an American watch microbrand founded in 2017 in Los Angeles by Wesley Kwok and Cullen Chen, who met in middle school; their first watch was the Trieste. Its signature is clean tool and dive watches — the Sector II (Sport, Dive, Field), the Contrail, the Avalon and the Retrospect. On the movement, be clear: Nodus is not a movement maker — it uses third-party Seiko NH35/NH36 (and some Miyota) calibres. But its genuine differentiator is real and worth stating: it assembles and regulates its watches in-house in Los Angeles, tuning them in multiple positions to accuracy well beyond factory spec. It is independent and founder-led. We drop the unverified “NodusFlow” and La Joux-Perret references. There’s no official brand hex, and we reproduce no dial or logo — these tones are an unofficial interpretation. This is design commentary and does not promote any product.)
Colour
Nodus lives in a steel-and-dive palette. Click a swatch to copy the hex.
Nodus’ identity is clean, utilitarian and modern — a dive blue, an ink, a steel, a graphite, and a chalk. The palette leans steel and dive — the register of tool watches, brushed steel and ocean. It signals capability and value rather than novelty. The honest caveat: with no published brand hex, these tones are an original, unofficial interpretation, not first-party values.
The lesson is a steel-and-dive palette signals a tool watch. Nodus’ world is a clean, capable, utilitarian object. For designers, it is a reminder that quality control — hand assembly and regulation — can be a brand story as much as the design, and that a steel-and-dive palette signals that tool purpose. Because a dive blue can fail as small text, keep type dark and let the colour live in the accents, palette and band. The takeaways: assemble it yourself; regulate it well; keep it clean; and treat any single hex as unofficial.
Typography
The register is a tool sans — clean, modern, precise.
Nodus’ identity carries a clean, modern, precise spirit — a utilitarian, tool object. A modern grotesque sans captures the mood: it is functional and current, the register of a considered tool watch. Set in a steel-and-dive palette, the tool sans feels clean and modern — exactly the personality Nodus carries. It is precise rather than decorative, mirroring a regulated movement. (Nodus’ real dial and wordmark are works we describe but do not reproduce, and the exact typeface is not ours to use.) Because it is not ours to use, the honest description is “a tool sans spirit,” shown here in a stand-in. The type behaves like the brand: clean, modern and precise.

In-house assembly as identity
Nodus stands for the LA-assembled tool watch.
Nodus is a lesson in making assembly the story. A steel-and-dive palette, a tool sans and a hand-regulated movement make in-house assembly the whole brand — clean, utilitarian, precise. The assembly is the differentiator. The differentiator is doing more in-house than most microbrands — assembling and regulating each watch in Los Angeles, tuned beyond factory spec.
Put to work, the identity is quality control as a promise. A designer building in this spirit would take ownership of the parts of the process that most affect the product — here, assembly and regulation — so the value story is about how the object is finished, not just how it looks. The lesson Nodus teaches is that a process differentiator can carry a value brand: hand-assembling and regulating in LA gives it a credible quality story at an accessible price, and a clean, tool design language keeps that purpose consistent.
For designers and brand-builders, Nodus offers a clear takeaway: own the step that matters most. The lessons: assemble it yourself; regulate it well; keep it clean; and be honest about the story. It is also a reminder that movement honesty matters in watches: Nodus is not a movement maker — it uses Seiko and Miyota calibres — so its real claim is assembly and regulation, not in-house movements, and we don’t overstate it — the palette here is an unofficial interpretation. And it is a reminder to drop the unverified: we don’t cite a “NodusFlow” or La Joux-Perret movement we couldn’t confirm. It is a reminder, too, that value and integrity can coexist: doing the finishing work yourself, at a price most people can reach, is a quiet argument that care need not be a luxury. Nodus made the LA-assembled tool watch the brand — proof that owning the finishing step can be the difference.
