Selkirk Brand Guidelines
The Idaho pickleball house.
Aa
Two constants: a pine palette and a mountain-sans register. Abstract homage — not a Selkirk product or mark.
The Idaho pickleball house
Selkirk is the family-led Idaho pickleball house — designed via Selkirk Labs, and backed since 2026 by Bluestone Equity.
Selkirk brings the round a premium American pickleball brand — a family-led house from northern Idaho, named for the Selkirk Mountains, with its own in-house research effort and a large pro roster. Selkirk makes pickleball paddles and a full kit of balls, nets, bags, apparel and shoes, and its answer to a round of new-court specialists is a premium, design-forward identity: an Idaho brand that leaned into innovation as pickleball exploded. A brand, from the mountains.
Its identity is the Idaho pickleball house. Selkirk’s family leadership, its Selkirk Labs research and its premium paddles are the story here. A brand, mountain-named. The Idaho pickleball house.
(Honest notes, so the story stays precise. Selkirk — at selkirk.com — is a live, high-profile pickleball brand. It makes pickleball paddles, with the current lineup foregrounding the LUXX, Power Air, SLK, OMNI, LABS and Core lines, the earlier Amped and Vanguard families having evolved, plus balls, nets, bags, apparel and shoes. It was founded in 2014 by brothers Mike and Rob Barnes, with their father Jim Barnes, not Ron, in production, and it is headquartered in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, named for the nearby Selkirk Mountains, so we use Coeur d’Alene, not Hayden. On where it is made — the theme of this round — this is a careful point: Selkirk makes no made-in-USA claim on its own pages, and the industry norm is overseas manufacturing, so we do not lead with a made-in-USA differentiator, and instead frame it as an American brand, headquartered and designed in Idaho, with in-house research through Selkirk Labs. On ownership, it is family-led, with the Barnes family as co-chief executives, but no longer purely independent: it announced a thirty-million-dollar investment from Bluestone Equity Partners in January 2026, so we say family-led with outside investment. Its self-description as the number-one brand in pickleball we treat as its own claim. Its paddle and logo designs are IP we describe but do not reproduce; there is no official brand hex; these tones are an unofficial interpretation. This is design commentary.)
Colour
Selkirk lives in a pine. Click a swatch to copy the hex.
Selkirk’s identity is American, premium and pine-toned — a pine, an ink, a sage, a deep pine, and a paper. The palette leans pine and sage: a cool, outdoor register that nods to the Idaho mountains and a composite paddle rather than a loud palette. It signals a premium, mountain-rooted brand. The honest caveat: with no published brand hex, these values are an original, unofficial interpretation, not first-party colours.
The lesson is a pine signals an American, premium identity. Selkirk’s world is a premium, made object. For designers, it is a reminder that a pine tone and a soft sage can carry a sports brand — the tone of the mountains it is named for. Because these tones can fail as small text, keep type dark and let the colour live in the accents, palette and band. The takeaways: root a brand in a place; lead with research; be honest about where it is made; and treat any single hex as unofficial.
Typography
The register is a mountain sans — premium, rooted, plain.
Selkirk’s identity carries a premium, rooted, plain spirit — a mountain-named pickleball house, not a fashion. A mountain sans captures the mood: clean, cool and confident, the register of a place-rooted premium brand. Set in a pine palette, the mountain sans feels premium and rooted — exactly the personality Selkirk carries. It is a place heritage rather than a logo, mirroring composite and air. (Selkirk’s real paddle and logo designs are things we describe but do not reproduce, and the exact typeface is not ours to use.) Because it is not ours to use, the honest description is “a mountain-sans spirit,” shown here in a stand-in. The type behaves like the brand: premium, rooted and plain.

The new-court specialists
Selkirk stands for the Idaho pickleball house.
Selkirk brings the round a premium American pickleball brand. A pine palette, a mountain sans and a place-name make one thing — the Idaho pickleball house — the whole identity: American, premium and pine-toned. The Selkirk Labs research is the differentiator, and being rooted in a place is the meaning. The point is a family-led Idaho brand, named for the Selkirk Mountains, that leaned into innovation as pickleball exploded.
Put to work, the identity is a place-rooted premium heritage told straight, as design. A maker in this spirit would root a brand in a place, lead with research, and be honest about where it is made. A reader in this spirit would keep the facts right: Selkirk was founded in 2014 by brothers Mike and Rob Barnes with their father Jim, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, named for the Selkirk Mountains; it makes the LUXX, Power Air, SLK, OMNI, LABS and Core paddles plus a full kit; it makes no made-in-USA claim, so we say American brand, designed in Idaho with Selkirk Labs research, not made-in-USA; and it is family-led but took a thirty-million-dollar Bluestone Equity investment in January 2026. Selkirk sits in the round’s pickleball span with Joola, Paddletek and CRBN, and its where-made thread is the honest reframe, design and research in Idaho rather than a manufacturing claim. The honest editorial moves are to correct Jim not Ron and Coeur d’Alene not Hayden, to soften the made-in-USA line to designed-in-Idaho, to note the Bluestone investment, and to treat the number-one line as a self-claim. The lesson Selkirk teaches is that a place and a research effort can be a whole identity, and honesty about the making and the investment keeps it credible.
For designers and brand-builders, Selkirk continues the new-court specialists: root a brand in a place — and be honest about where it is made. The lessons: take a name and a palette from a place; lead with an in-house research effort; reframe a made-in claim you cannot verify as designed-here; note outside investment plainly; and never reproduce a logo. It is also a reminder to stay precise: Selkirk is the family-led Idaho pickleball house, designed via Selkirk Labs and backed since 2026 by Bluestone Equity — with the palette here an unofficial interpretation. Read that way, Selkirk is less a paddle than a place: an Idaho house named for its mountains. The lesson for a brand is that a place and honest disclosure reinforce each other, and designing-in-Idaho keeps the heritage earned. Selkirk made the-Idaho-pickleball-house the identity — proof that a place can define a brand.
