Vichy Catalan Brand Guidelines

Two constants: a yellow-and-mosaic palette and an elegant Modernista serif. Abstract homage — not the Vichy Catalan bottle relief, label or “V” mark.
Spain’s thermal sparkling water
Vichy Catalan tastes of its minerals — on purpose.
Vichy Catalan is a lesson in heritage as identity. From Caldes de Malavella, Girona, its origins trace to 1881, when the physician Dr. Modest Furest i Roca acquired the thermal spring. The water emerges naturally sparkling from a hot spring at about 60 °C and is very high in sodium bicarbonate — giving it a distinctive, savoury, strongly mineral taste that is the brand’s signature, not a flaw.
Its identity is steeped in Catalan Modernisme. The company’s landmark Art Nouveau spa (designed by Gaietà Buïgas, completed under Manuel Almeda, opened 1904) anchors the story, and the bottle carries a Gaudí-inspired “trencadís” mosaic relief under a yellow label — a package that won international design recognition. Today Vichy Catalan leads Spain’s sparkling-water market.
(Honest notes: 1881 is the origin (spring acquired) — bottling began 1889 and the brand was registered 1890; it is independent (Vichy Catalan Corporación), not Nestlé or Danone; and despite the name it is unrelated to French “Vichy” (Vichy Célestins or Vichy skincare) — the name is a homage, “the Catalan Vichy.” No official brand hex is published.)
Colour
Vichy Catalan lives in yellow and mosaic. Click a swatch to copy the hex.
Vichy Catalan’s identity is heritage, yellow and Modernista — a Vichy yellow, a mosaic teal, a terracotta, a cream, and an ink. The palette echoes the yellow label and the trencadís mosaic relief on the glass, drawn from Catalan Art Nouveau. It signals a heritage, characterful, unmistakably Catalan water rather than a neutral commodity. The honest caveat: with no published brand hex, these tones are an original, unofficial interpretation, not first-party values.
The lesson is a regional design language can be the brand. Vichy Catalan’s world is Modernisme — Gaudí-style mosaic, warm yellow, a heritage spa. For designers, it is a reminder that leaning into a specific, authentic visual culture (here, Catalan Art Nouveau) makes a brand feel rooted and distinctive. The takeaways: draw the palette from a real design heritage; carry a signature motif onto the package; and treat any single hex as unofficial — using the deep teal for small text so the yellow stays warm.
Typography
The wordmark spirit is an elegant Modernista serif — heritage and warm.
Vichy Catalan’s identity carries an elegant, heritage, Modernista spirit — a “Vichy Catalan” wordmark and a signature “V” gesture, tied to an Art Nouveau spa and a mosaic bottle. A high-contrast heritage serif captures the mood: it is graceful and characterful, the register of a brand rooted in Catalan Modernisme and a century-old balneari. Set against yellow and mosaic tones, the elegant serif feels premium and cultured — exactly the heritage, place-proud personality Vichy Catalan carries. It is refined rather than plain, mirroring a bottle embossed like Gaudí tilework. (Vichy Catalan’s real wordmark, the “V” mark and the trencadís bottle relief are trademarks and trade dress we describe but do not reproduce, and the exact typeface is not published, so we don’t assert it.) Because the specific mark is not ours to use, the honest description is “an elegant Modernista serif spirit,” not the Vichy Catalan logo. The type behaves like the brand: elegant, heritage and warm.

Leaning all the way into a design heritage
Vichy Catalan stands for Modernisme.
Vichy Catalan is a lesson in owning a cultural aesthetic. Instead of a neutral, international look, it embraced Catalan Modernisme — a Gaudí-inspired trencadís bottle, a warm yellow label, a landmark Art Nouveau spa — so the brand feels inseparable from its place. Even the strongly mineral taste is presented as heritage character, not compromise. The differentiator is a specific, authentic design culture.
For designers and brand-builders, Vichy Catalan offers a clear takeaway: authentic regional design is a moat. The lessons: find a real cultural language tied to your origin; express it in a signature package (the mosaic relief); and let a genuine product quirk (the high-mineral taste) become part of the identity. It is also a reminder to stay accurate: 1881 is the origin, it is an independent Catalan company, and it is unrelated to French Vichy — with the palette here an unofficial interpretation. Vichy Catalan chose Modernisme — proof that a design heritage can be the difference.
