Sunday red

A final-round habit turned into a brand name.

Sun Day Red was announced on Monday, 12 February 2024, in Los Angeles, CBS Sports reported that evening, a few days before Tiger Woods teed off at the Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club, a tournament that benefits his foundation. The Irish Times reported the launch as following the end of Woods’ partnership with Nike, which had lasted 27 years. Sky Sports reported that the new brand replaced Nike’s TW collection as his official clothing.

The name describes a habit. Woods has long worn red in the final round of tournaments, which usually falls on a Sunday. According to The Irish Times, his mother, Kultida Woods, believed red was his power colour as a Capricorn; he wore it as a junior golfer, at Stanford and in every professional tournament he has played. “Sunday red – it’s me,” he said at the launch.

The spelling is deliberate. CBS Sports reported that the name is written as three words, a nod to wearing red on Sundays, and quoted Woods saying “there is a special power in 3’s” and that the name was a way to create something “completely different and unexpected.” SGB reported that TaylorMade had filed three trademark applications on 18 January 2024, covering both “Sunday Red” and “Sun Day Red.”

Woods presented the brand as a change of stage. “It’s the right time in my life,” he said in Los Angeles, according to The Irish Times. “It’s transitional.” He added: “I’m not a kid any more. I want to have a brand I’m proud of going forward.”

Colour

Fifteen stripes, set below the buttons.

The emblem carries a number. The brand’s mark is a tiger made of 15 stripes, one for each of the major championships Woods has won, as The Irish Times, Sky Sports and CBS Sports all reported at the launch. CBS Sports described it as having 15 stripes “one for each of his 15 major championships.”

Where the mark sits is part of the design. Sky Sports reported that on the polo shirts the tiger was placed below the buttons rather than on the chest, where golf logos usually go.

The first range was apparel. According to Sky Sports, the brand’s website said products would be available in North America from 1 May 2024, and described them as “innovative performance wear and luxury lifestyle fashion”; the same report said women’s and children’s styles and footwear were planned. CBS Sports reported that the website went live on the evening of the announcement.

Footwear followed. By July 2025, Sports Illustrated reported, the range included the Pioneer Cypress and Magnolia shoes, and Woods had helped to design the brand’s footwear. The same article listed collections tied to golf’s calendar, including releases around the U.S. Open, the 2025 PGA Championship and the Masters, as well as premium polos, cashmere layers and technical outerwear.

The brand also changed how it sold. Until mid-2025 Sun Day Red sold almost entirely direct to consumers, Sports Illustrated reported; from 1 July 2025 it became available at selected golf courses and resorts, and from 22 July its footwear went on sale at golf retailers including PGA TOUR Superstore and Scheels. Woods said he was “incredibly excited for golfers to experience Sun Day Red in person.”

Typography

Bags, carts and the golfers who push them.

The seven brands in this group are all names from the golf course’s carrying and clothing trade: OGIO, Sun Day Red, PowaKaddy, Motocaddy, Stewart Golf, BIG MAX and Clicgear. They cover golf bags, push carts, electric trolleys and a new apparel label.

A bag or trolley brand’s identity is usually carried by a name, a mark and a recognisable product shape rather than by any one model, because the company behind the name may have changed hands, moved its manufacturing or changed the way it sells. That makes the questions behind each name worth asking plainly: who started it, who owns it now, and where its products are actually designed and made.

Each guide separates what independent sources record from what the company says about itself — its founding story, its owners over time, where its products are made and how its range has changed — and marks plainly what rests only on the company’s own word.

Sun Day Red

A stand-alone label under the TaylorMade umbrella.

Sun Day Red was built inside TaylorMade Golf but set apart from it. Woods had played TaylorMade equipment under a deal dating from 2017, Sky Sports reported, and the new brand extended that relationship. TaylorMade’s chief executive, David Abeles, said at the launch: “This brand stands alone,” and, according to SGB, that it was “independent of TaylorMade” and would develop “its own identity” over time. SGB described Sun Day Red as a TaylorMade division operating as its own business unit with separate leadership and staff; Sportcal called it “a standalone business unit but under the TaylorMade umbrella.” CBS Sports reported that TaylorMade would produce the line as its own independent business line.

The brand has its own base. SGB and Sky Sports reported that it is headquartered in San Clemente, California, north of TaylorMade’s offices in Carlsbad. Its president is Brad Blankinship, formerly of the surf-wear brands Quiksilver and RVCA, who called the 2025 move into courses and retailers “a massive milestone for Sun Day Red,” Sports Illustrated reported. TaylorMade itself is owned by Centroid Investment Partners, a Korean private-equity firm that signed an agreement to buy it in May 2022, English Wikipedia says; Sun Day Red has been part of TaylorMade since its launch in February 2024.

For a design guide, Sun Day Red shows how an athlete’s habit can become a whole identity: a colour in the name, a number hidden in the emblem and a logo moved to an unexpected place on the shirt. Compare Nike Golf, whose apparel Woods wore for 27 years, and TaylorMade, the company behind the label. For this guide we use a Sunday red, near-black and polo white with a serif, an unofficial interpretation; no product or logo is reproduced.
