Beyond Good Brand Guidelines

Two constants: a bright block-colour palette and a bold modern sans register. Abstract homage — not the Beyond Good packaging.
Made at the source
Beyond Good makes its chocolate where the cacao grows.
Beyond Good is a lesson in a model as identity. Founded in 2008 as Madécasse by Tim McCollum and Brett Beach — who met as Peace Corps volunteers in Madagascar — and rebranded Beyond Good in January 2020, it built its whole brand on where the chocolate is made.
Its identity is made at the source: chocolate manufactured in Madagascar, not merely sourced there — a rare “tree-to-bar in Africa” model it frames as “zero middlemen.” The 2020 rebrand paired that mission with a bright, bold, block-colour bar-wrapper system, each bar a vivid saturated field, alongside single-origin Madagascar and Uganda bars and a Madagascar vanilla line.
(Honest notes: Beyond Good is a US-headquartered company — Brooklyn, and originally started in Lawrence, Kansas — that manufactures at origin in Madagascar, so it’s best described as made-at-origin rather than “a Madagascar company” or “100% Madagascar-made” (there is some European production too). It’s founder-led, and we don’t assert its ownership beyond that. There’s no official brand hex, so these tones are an unofficial interpretation.)
Colour
Beyond Good lives in a bright block-colour palette. Click a swatch to copy the hex.
Beyond Good’s identity is bright, optimistic and modern — an origin coral, an ink, a bright orange, a teal, and a cream. The palette gathers a coral, an orange and a teal — the register of a bold, block-colour wrapper. It signals optimism and impact rather than austerity. The honest caveat: with no published brand hex, these tones are an original, unofficial interpretation, not first-party values.
The lesson is bold block colours signal an optimistic, mission-led brand. Beyond Good’s world is a shelf of vivid single-colour bars. For designers, it is a reminder that a bright, saturated palette reads as modern and hopeful — right for a made-at-origin mission. The takeaways: give each bar a saturated colour field; keep the mission front and centre; name by origin and percentage; and — because bright hues fail as small text — keep type dark and let the colour live in the palette and band; treat any single hex as unofficial.
Typography
The register is a bold modern sans — optimistic, confident, modern.
Beyond Good’s identity carries an optimistic, confident, modern spirit — a bright bar and a made-at-origin mission. A bold modern sans captures the mood: it is strong and clear, the register of a confident, contemporary brand. Set in a bright block-colour palette, the bold modern sans feels optimistic and confident — exactly the personality Beyond Good carries. It is modern rather than austere, mirroring a vivid wrapper. (Beyond Good’s real packaging is work we describe but do not reproduce, and the exact typeface is not ours to use.) Because it is not ours to use, the honest description is “a bold modern sans spirit,” shown here in a stand-in. The type behaves like the brand: optimistic, confident and modern.

A model as identity
Beyond Good stands for making it where it grows.
Beyond Good is a lesson in making a model the identity. A bright block-colour palette, a bold modern sans and a made-at-origin story make the model the whole brand — optimistic, confident, modern. The model is the differentiator. The differentiator is a made-at-origin, mission-led identity.
For designers and brand-builders, Beyond Good offers a clear takeaway: make the supply chain the story. The lessons: build the mission into the model (made at origin); dress it in optimistic colour (block-colour bars); name by origin; and be honest about the structure. It is also a reminder to stay accurate: it’s a US-headquartered company that manufactures in Madagascar, it was Madécasse until 2020, and the palette here is an unofficial interpretation. Beyond Good made a model the brand — proof that how and where can be the difference.
