The functional beer built on a social blend

Impossibrew is the UK functional beer at 0.5%, built around a nootropic Social Blend.

Impossibrew brings the round its beer — the UK functional, dealcoholised beer at half a per cent, built around a proprietary blend the brand markets as a nootropic Social Blend. Impossibrew makes a functional low-alcohol beer, and its answer to a round about the functional pour is a familiar format made functional: a beer that promises the relaxing, social feeling of a drink, minus most of the alcohol. A brand, a brew.

Its identity is the functional beer built on a social blend. Impossibrew’s Social Blend, its UK founding and its functional beer format are the story here. A brand, functional. The functional beer built on a social blend.

(Honest notes, so the story stays precise, and functional claims are the brand’s own. Impossibrew, at impossibrew.co.uk, makes a functional beer the site describes as dealcoholised at half a per cent, so we call it a low-alcohol functional beer, not fully alcohol-free, in an Enhanced Lager and an Enhanced Pale Ale plus rotating editions. Its functional angle is a proprietary Social Blend the brand markets as containing L-theanine, ashwagandha and other ingredients, developed with an academic collaborator, which we attribute as the brand’s claim. It was founded by Mark Wong, and the company was incorporated in 2020 with the brand stating a 2021 founding, so we say founded in 2021. It appeared on a UK television investment show, which we can note as an appearance without stating the outcome. On its corporate history, the original company was renamed in 2024, which we report as a fact without speculating why. On where it is made, a theme of this round, no brewing location is documented, so we do not state one. On ownership, it is independent and founder-led with outside investment, without specifics. Its relaxation and nootropic claims are the brand’s own marketing, reported neutrally. Its name and its Social Blend mark are IP we describe but do not reproduce; there is no official brand hex; these tones are an unofficial interpretation.)

Colour

Impossibrew lives in a social indigo. Click a swatch to copy the hex.

Impossibrew’s identity is functional, calm and familiar — a social indigo, an ink, a mist, a deep indigo, and a paper. The palette leans social indigo and mist: a calm, considered register that nods to a relaxing beer and a nootropic blend rather than a loud palette. It signals a functional, dealcoholised beer. The honest caveat: with no published brand hex, these values are an original, unofficial interpretation, not first-party colours.

The lesson is a social indigo signals a functional, calm identity. Impossibrew’s world is a familiar, made object. For designers, it is a reminder that a social indigo and a soft mist can carry a drink brand — the tone of a functional beer. Because these tones can fail as small text, keep type dark and let the colour live in the accents, palette and band. The takeaways: make a familiar format functional; be honest about the strength; report claims neutrally; and treat any single hex as unofficial.

Typography

The register is a brew sans — functional, calm, plain.

Impossibrew’s identity carries a functional, calm, plain spirit — a functional beer, not a fashion. A brew sans captures the mood: sturdy, calm and confident, the register of a considered brew. Set in a social-indigo palette, the brew sans feels functional and calm — exactly the personality Impossibrew carries. It is a blend rather than a logo, mirroring malt and hop. (Impossibrew’s real can is a thing we describe but do not reproduce, and the exact typeface is not ours to use.) Because it is not ours to use, the honest description is “a brew-sans spirit,” shown here in a stand-in. The type behaves like the brand: functional, calm and plain.

The functional pour

Impossibrew stands for the functional beer built on a social blend.

Impossibrew brings the round its beer. A social-indigo palette, a brew sans and a proprietary blend make one thing — the functional beer built on a social blend — the whole identity: functional, calm and familiar. The functional blend is the pitch, and the beer is the familiar format. The point is a UK dealcoholised beer that promises the relaxing, social feeling of a drink, built on a nootropic blend.

Put to work, the identity is a functional beer told straight, as design. A maker in this spirit would make a familiar format functional, be honest about the strength, and report claims neutrally. A reader in this spirit would keep the facts right: Impossibrew makes a dealcoholised functional beer at half a per cent, an Enhanced Lager and an Enhanced Pale Ale, built on a Social Blend the brand markets as containing L-theanine and ashwagandha; it was founded by Mark Wong, with the company incorporated in 2020 and a stated 2021 founding; its original company was renamed in 2024, which we report plainly; its brewing location is undocumented; and it is founder-led with outside investment. Impossibrew joins Sentia on the science-story side of the round, both leaning on a named collaborator, and it is the round’s beer format. The honest editorial moves are to call it half-a-per-cent dealcoholised not fully alcohol-free, to report the blend as the brand’s claim, to note the 2024 rename plainly, and to state no brewing location. The lesson Impossibrew teaches is that a functional format can be a whole identity, and being honest about the strength keeps it credible.

For designers and brand-builders, Impossibrew continues the functional pour: make a familiar format functional — and be honest about the strength. The lessons: take a familiar format like beer and make it functional; say half-a-per-cent when it is not fully alcohol-free; report a proprietary blend as your own claim; note a corporate change plainly without speculation; and never reproduce a can. It is also a reminder to stay precise: Impossibrew is the UK functional beer at half a per cent, built around a nootropic Social Blend — with the palette here an unofficial interpretation. Read that way, Impossibrew is less a can than a blend: a functional beer for the feeling. The lesson for a brand is that a functional format and honest strength reinforce each other, and saying dealcoholised keeps the story earned. Impossibrew made the-functional-beer-built-on-a-social-blend the identity — proof that a functional format can define a brand.

Source & notes

Editorial reference. This article reports publicly documented facts about Impossibrew’s visual identity as design commentary, not promotion (Impossibrew is a low/no-alcohol drink); it is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, Impossibrew. The Impossibrew name and “Social Blend” mark are IP of their owner — the graphics here are original abstract homages (colour discs and malt/hop texture swatches); no can or logo is reproduced, and all specimen text is set in a Google-Font stand-in. Facts reported from the maker’s site (impossibrew.co.uk) and UK Companies House: Impossibrew makes a functional, “dealcoholised” beer at 0.5% ABV (⚠ NOT fully alcohol-free/0.0%) — an Enhanced Lager and Enhanced Pale Ale plus rotating editions — built around a proprietary “Social Blend” the brand markets as containing L-theanine, ashwagandha and other ingredients (developed with an academic collaborator; attributed as the brand’s claim); founder Mark Wong; company incorporated Nov 2020 (brand states a 2021 founding); it appeared on Dragons’ Den (outcome not stated here). Honest notes: the original founding entity (“Impossibrew Limited,” 13014642) was renamed “A1CO LTD” in September 2024 — reported plainly, without speculation; the brewing/production location is not documented (London addresses are offices, not a brewery); it is founder-led with outside investment (no ownership specifics claimed); ⚠ all nootropic/relaxation/functional claims (and any “% felt more relaxed” statistic) are the brand’s own marketing, reported neutrally and NOT as established fact. No official brand hex is used, so the tones here are an unofficial interpretation.
