Mfpen Brand Guidelines

Two constants: a sage-and-oat palette and a quiet minimal register. Abstract homage — not an mfpen piece or wordmark.
Made on your behalf
mfpen makes considered menswear from deadstock — its name means signing on your behalf.
mfpen is a lesson in a principle as the identity. A Danish menswear label from Copenhagen, its very name — from the Danish “med ført pen,” a legal term for signing on someone else’s behalf — carries its belief: that the designer makes garments on the wearer’s behalf, quietly and responsibly, mostly from deadstock fabric.
Its identity is made on your behalf. mfpen’s understated, considered everyday menswear — relaxed, slightly oversized tailoring built largely from surplus and deadstock cloth — is the work it is known for. Restraint, made a principle. A brand whose name is a promise.
(Honest notes, so the story stays precise. mfpen is a Danish brand based in Copenhagen, founded in 2015 — some sources say 2016 — by Sigurd Bank, who came from production and sourcing roles and bootstrapped the label, at one point bartending at night; his grandfather was a tailor, which the brand nods to with labels reading “Herreekvipering,” a Danish word for a men’s outfitter. Its name comes from “med ført pen,” the idea of signing, or making, on another’s behalf — not, as a plausible-sounding myth has it, “min fars pen,” meaning “my father’s pen.” Its signature is understated, considered everyday menswear — relaxed, slightly oversized reinterpretations of classic garments — with a quiet subcultural undercurrent beneath the calm surface, and it has since added womenswear. On ownership, it is fully independent: Sigurd Bank owns the company outright, and its 2025 LVMH Prize semi-final placing is a competition result, not ownership. On production, it is made in Europe, primarily in Portugal, through a small network of suppliers, with around 70% of pieces made from surplus and deadstock fabric — figures we report as the brand states them rather than as independently certified. Its lowercase wordmark and the “Herreekvipering” label text are IP we describe but never reproduce, and there is no official brand hex, so these tones are an unofficial interpretation. This is design commentary and does not promote any product.)
Colour
mfpen lives in a sage-and-oat palette. Click a swatch to copy the hex.
mfpen’s identity is quiet, natural and considered — a sage, an ink, an oat, a graphite, and a paper. The palette leans sage and oat: the register of natural fibre and Scandinavian calm rather than statement colour. It signals restraint and responsibility over spectacle. The honest caveat: with no published brand hex, these values are an original, unofficial interpretation, not first-party colours.
The lesson is a sage-and-oat palette signals a considered, responsible identity. mfpen’s world is a quiet, natural, considered object. For designers, it is a reminder that a soft, muted palette can carry a principle — that a brand built on deadstock and restraint needs colour that feels honest and unforced rather than loud. Because a mid sage can fail as small text, keep type dark and let the colour live in the accents, palette and band. The takeaways: let the principle lead; keep the palette quiet; use what already exists; and treat any single hex as unofficial.
Typography
The register is a quiet minimal — understated, calm, considered.
mfpen’s identity carries an understated, calm, considered spirit — a principled object, not a loud one. A quiet minimal sans captures the mood: clean, light and unshowy, letting the garment and the fabric, not the type, lead. Set in a sage-and-oat palette, the quiet minimal feels calm and considered — exactly the personality mfpen carries. It is restrained rather than expressive, mirroring a relaxed, deadstock-built garment. (mfpen’s real garments and wordmark are things we describe but do not reproduce, and the exact typeface is not ours to use.) Because it is not ours to use, the honest description is “a quiet-minimal spirit,” shown here in a stand-in. The type behaves like the brand: understated, calm and considered.

A principle as identity
mfpen stands for made on your behalf.
mfpen is a lesson in making a principle the identity. A sage-and-oat palette, a quiet minimal register and a deadstock-built wardrobe make responsibility and restraint the whole brand — understated, calm and considered. The principle is the differentiator. The differentiator is a belief baked into the name itself — making garments on the wearer’s behalf, from what already exists — carried consistently through quiet, well-made clothing.
Put to work, the identity is a principle as design. A house building in this spirit would choose a genuine value — here, responsibility and restraint — and let it govern the materials, the silhouettes and the tone, so the customer buys into a way of making, not just a look. The lesson mfpen teaches is that a real principle plus a quiet, disciplined design language can build a brand: the deadstock and the restraint give it integrity, and the consistency gives it identity. The principle is the personality, and the making is the proof — as long as the claims behind it are stated honestly.
For designers and brand-builders, mfpen offers a clear takeaway: build on a principle you can keep. The lessons: choose a real value; let it shape the materials; keep the design quiet; and be honest about the story. It is also a reminder to stay accurate: mfpen was founded in 2015 by Sigurd Bank, who owns it outright, its name means “signing on another’s behalf” rather than “my father’s pen,” and it is made in Europe, primarily Portugal, largely from deadstock — figures reported as the brand states them, and the palette here is an unofficial interpretation. mfpen made a principle the brand — proof that a belief can be the difference.
